Luke 12:13-34
WEiRD Money

Sermon Summary:

·         It is our normal sinful human nature to love ourselves first which means loving money and possessions (Luke 12:13–21, 2 Timothy 3:1–2).

    • The love of money has become normal in our society and it’s clear that normal just isn’t working.

·         Jesus points out a weird attitude towards money and possessions.

    •  Jesus says that we should not store up things for ourselves but instead be rich toward God.
    • To be rich toward God is to have eternal wealth but to be rich towards ourselves only has temporal value.
    • The Rich Fool in the parable loved himself more than God because his heart was where his treasure was (Luke 12:13-34).

·         We need to fall out of love with money:

    • This cannot be done by ourselves but we must ask the Holy Spirit to help us.
    • We give away our money and possessions.
    • Be content with what we have now.
    • Choose to obey God over financial gain.

·         We need to fall in love with God:

    • The best way to change a heart’s affections is with the affections of another.
    • We must remember that He became poor for us so that we could become rich in Him (2 Cor 8:9).
